What we publish

Each page answers one practical question about scaling or measuring a recipe. We don't publish recipes, and we don't create a separate page for every number or ingredient when one useful tool or guide covers it.

Sources

  • Unit definitions come from official standards: NIST in the US, and national regulations or standards for other countries where we could find them.
  • Ingredient weights come from USDA FoodData Central, with other published figures shown for comparison where they differ.
  • Practical guidance comes from university extension services and similar sources.

Each guide lists its sources. Where we could only find secondary sources, such as for the Australian 20 mL tablespoon, we say so on the page.

Use of AI

We use AI to help draft tools and guides. We check calculations against independently worked answers and automated tests, and we check claims against the listed sources before publishing. We don't publish AI-invented recipes, test results, photos, reviews or credentials.

What we won't claim

  • That a resized recipe will bake the same: we haven't tested it, and some things don't scale in a straight line.
  • That a cup-to-gram figure is exact: it depends on the ingredient and how you fill the cup.
  • Food safety, allergy or substitution advice.

Reviews

Pages show a "last reviewed" date. We review tools and guides when a source changes, when a reader reports a problem, and at least once a year.

Corrections

If you find an error, please contact us with the page, what you entered, and what you expected. We'll check it against the sources. If it's wrong, we fix it, update the review date, and add a note to the corrections log below describing what changed. Small fixes to spelling or wording are not logged.
